Do Munchkin Bernedoodles shed?
Most Munchkin Bernedoodles shed lightly, some shed more, and no Bernedoodle is truly hypoallergenic. Where a dog falls depends on the coat that individual puppy grows, which is why we describe each puppy's coat to you instead of promising one.

Why one litter can grow different coats
A Munchkin Bernedoodle draws on three breeds, and each brings its own coat.
Poodle
The wavy to curly coat that tends to hold on to its hair.
Bernese Mountain Dog
A coat that sheds, and sheds heavily.
Cavalier King Charles Spaniel
A coat that sheds as well.
Every puppy inherits its own blend of the three, so two littermates can finish with noticeably different coats. As a rule of thumb, the curlier the coat, the less of it ends up on your floor.
What hypoallergenic actually means
There is no such thing as an allergy-free dog. The proteins people react to come from a dog's skin and saliva as well as its hair, so every dog carries them. A coat that sheds less can leave less of that behind on floors and furniture, which is why some people with mild allergies do better with a doodle, but it is not a guarantee.
If anyone in your home has allergies, spend real time with a Bernedoodle before you commit, and ask to meet ours on a visit.
Reading a puppy's coat
The coat you see at eight weeks is a preview rather than the final coat. The adult coat comes in over the first year, and its texture often changes partway through. We can tell you whether a puppy's coat is looking wavy, curly or straighter, and we will, but nobody can promise how it finishes.
Grooming
Less shedding means more grooming
A coat that holds its hair needs brushing, because the loose hair stays in the coat instead of landing on the couch, and it mats if it is left.
What to plan for
- Brushing it through several times a week
- A groomer roughly every six to eight weeks
- Ideally, a groomer who knows doodle coats
- Extra brushing while the puppy coat changes over to the adult one
